Danette McMahon

Performs Songs from the Movies with Bob Henschen

BIO:

Danette first appeared onstage at age six. Piano, dance and song recitals were as much a part of her life as reading, writing and arithmetic. Right out of high school she performed in the chorus line of Houston Music Theatre, where she shared the stage with Oscar winner, Rita Moreno. She toured with the show group Sidros’s Armada from 19-to 19-. Later she was to be inducted into the Las Vega Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2010!

In 1995, she had the privilege of performing with two Oscar winners.

Other career highlights include when Danette met Meryl Streep while singing in her backyard with The Tommy Dorsey Orchestra, at her mom’s 80th surprise birthday celebration. That same year, Danette made it to the big screen playing the role of Lance Henriksen’s wife in the Disney movie “POWDER”. Fellow cast members included Mary Steenburgen, Jeff Goldblum and Sean Patrick Flannery, as Powder.

Through the years, Dannette has shared the stage with some amazing artists. In Vegas, she sang with Wes Montgomery of The Monk Montgomery Trio. She alternated sets with jazz/blues legend, Joe Williams and Little Anthony and The Imperials. On the Florida Jazz Festival, Danette opened for Freddie Hubbard, Pacquito de Rivera, Hiroshima and Spyro Gyra. Back home in Houston, she was the featured vocalist with the Bob Henschen Band, when they ere honored to be the warm up act for Marin Hamlisch, Dionne Warwick and The Smothers Brothers.

In 2003, she returned to college and began her songwriting career.

In all of the experiences Danette has had on stage, taking her music into Retirement Communities and Alzheimer Residences has been among the most rewarding. She continues to perform weekly with a variety band and other jazz venues and restaurants in Houston. She’s looking forward to many more years of making music and meeting wonderful new people!
